- 3½ cups all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2¼ tsp)
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 cup whole milk (warmed)
- ¼ cup unsalted butter (melted)
- 1 large egg
- 2 tbsp red food coloring
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ cup unsalted butter (softened) for filling
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 8 oz cream cheese (softened) for frosting
- ½ cup unsalted butter (softened) for frosting
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla extract for frosting
- 2–4 tbsp milk for frosting
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, mix warm milk, melted butter, egg, red food coloring, and vanilla extract; combine with dry ingredients.
- Gradually add remaining flour to form a soft dough and knead until smooth.
- Let rise in an oiled bowl for about an hour until doubled in size.
- Roll out the dough into a rectangle and spread softened butter mixed with brown sugar and cinnamon.
- Roll tightly into a log, slice into pieces, place in a greased baking dish, and let rise again for 30 minutes.
- Bake at 350°F for 25–30 minutes until golden brown.
- Prepare cream cheese frosting while rolls bake; frost once slightly cooled.
