  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (plus extra for rolling)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup finely chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts), optional
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips, optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream the softened butter with powdered sugar until fluffy. Add the vanilla extract and mix well.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually add this mixture to the butter mixture until just blended.
  4. Gently fold in the nuts and mini chocolate chips if using.
  5. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll into balls; place them on prepared baking sheets about an inch apart.
  6. Bake for 12-15 minutes until edges are set but cookies remain soft in the center.
  7. Allow to cool slightly before rolling in powdered sugar, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
